This topic covers an employer's duty to its employees with respect to workplace hazards, the materials and equipment in the workplace and the direction of the work force. Employers are required to take all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of workers. For example, toxic substances, hazardous machinery, worker education and personal protective equipment fall under this area. The duties of workers are generally to work safely and comply with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, or the Canada Labour Code and regulations for workers under federal jurisdiction. Check the Chamber of Commerce Members Directory for a listing of local health & safety services.
